Hello fellow wine enthusiasts! My name is Ronnie Farris and I am the Head Winemaker at Urban Pine Winery and Eatery. I am starting a blog to keep you up to date with juicy news at our winery, what’s trending, special events, and things that I find interesting in the wine world.
I’d like to start off by telling you a little bit about myself. I have an immense passion for wine and I’m always striving to learn more. Whether it’d be a new grape varietal, location, aging, or growing method, I’m always looking to expand my knowledge in the wine world in and outside of the winemaking room. My love for wine started to grow in my early twenties, learning about food and wine pairings. Trying Cabernet Sauvignon with a home grilled steak, realizing they tasted so good together but still I was lacking the vocabulary and knowledge to understand why it was such a classic pairing.
I believe that if you do not know something, look it up! This value I hold has brought me down many, many different avenues in life. As I learned that the tannins and acidity from the Cabernet work in harmony with the fat and protein of the steak, I was intrigued. The fat from a ribeye softening the tannins of a bold red and offering a luscious mouthfeel that pairs beautifully together was enough for me to jump down the rabbit hole that is the wine world. It started as a daunting challenge, learning that in some countries, the location determine what grape is grown and often times, not named. E.g. Chardonnay, Chablis, Pouilly- Fuisse, and white Burgundy are all examples of the same grape, just grown in different regions. As someone new to wine, this can be incredibly challenging.
Rather than writing off the unknowns of the wine world, I decided it was time to dive in head first and I haven’t looked back since. I started getting to know the wine buyers at my local liquor store, to attending weekly wine tastings, and reading up on everything I could get my hands on. These paths in my life would eventually cross with Urban Pine Winery at a local event and the rest is history.
Join me every month as I offer updates on new wines, events, pairing tips, and fun knowledge you can share with others to introduce them into the world of wine!
Thanks for reading!
